FAQs on using Bacteria for Wastewater Treatment

  • The bacteria can be added to the Equalization tank or the Aeration tank. A measured quantity of the bacteria powder can be first mixed with some effluent in a drum. The slurry from the drum is then added to the effluent in the plant.

It is a reasonably straightforward process and does not require any fancy equipment. And if needed, we would be happy to assist you with the first few additions.

  • That depends on several factors such as the COD levels, the COD to BOD ratio, the quantity of effluent to be treated per day, the retention time, the level of dissolved oxygen, etc. We must also consider other factors such as TDS, presence of toxic compounds, bacteriostatic or bactericidal compounds, etc. We can provide you with our best estimates only after we gather such details from you.

  • We provide a treatment plan that can last from one to three months. Once the plant is primed with new bacteria, and everything is in order, you will no longer need to add any more bacteria to the system. The microbes keep consuming chemicals in effluent and multiplying.

However, if you feel that the effluent is inherently toxic, you can consider having a maintenance dose to replace the dying population. In most cases, bacteria in Evobac are tolerant to common toxins in the effluent.

  • Bacteria are omnipresent. They are in the air, in water bodies and soil. It is very likely that your effluent treatment plant already has bacteria in the effluent. Usually, the plant is primed with bacteria during commissioning. Common sources include cow dung, soil or effluent from another plant. You should consider adding bacteria if you are not able to meet COD or BOD norms despite having these bacteria.

Evolved bacteria lead to waste degradation with low energy inputs. Thus, helping you reduce the carbon footprint of the treatment process.

  • Imagine leaving a pot of milk out in the open. What would happen to it in a couple of hours? It will get spoilt. Right? Now imagine leaving the pot of milk with a scoop of good quality curd mixed in it. What would you get after a few hours? Rich thick delicious curd. Both spoiling of milk, and curdling of milk, are biological processes driven by bacteria. The difference is just the kind of bacteria involved in the process.

Adding the right set of bacteria to the effluent will ensure the proper degradation of pollutants. Our formulations contain bacteria evolved to degrade various chemicals present in the effluent. And this is the difference. We have bacteria that are evolved to degrade waste.

  • Absolutely. All bacteria in our formulation have the GRAS status.

  • Bacteria come in different forms and sizes. Our product has multiple types of bacteria that vary in their morphology. However, they may or may not look different than those already existing in the plant. The difference may be seen in the number of bacteria and their motility.

However, you will certainly see the difference in the characteristics of the treated water.

  • Yes, we will send a sample of bacteria if you are interested. You can try our bacteria on the effluent from your plant. This can be done even in a 500 ml flat bottom flask. We recommend a trial on 100 L effluent, using aeration balls. We will provide you with the procedure for conducting the trial and would be happy to assist you in setting it up. We don’t charge for product samples (at least not for up to 50 g of it).

Alternatively, you can send over 5 L of your effluent sample to us. We will do the trial at our end and send the results along with relevant photographs/video back to you. No charges here too. Just let us know 2 to 3 days in advance so that we keep our systems free for you.

  • Just call us and we will take it forward from there.
